Model Q&A: Jessi Fierce

Jessi Fierce | VIP Member | Verified Credits (41)

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I grew up in California but moved to Florida several years ago for school and athletics. Today, I am based in Miami. I travel a few times a month on trips, typically for companies or photographers that fly me to them to work on a project. I am currently preparing to go to law school in the Fall of 2020, and am about to travel a bit more in order to tour campuses around the country.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I grew up with a parent who was a professional photographer and as a result, I often found myself posing for her test shots and admiring the beautiful work she made with her clients. Initially, I thought I might want to be a photographer too, but at a conference that we attended together several years ago, “Shutterfest,” I found myself at a group shoot frustrated with my camera. I went up to my hotel room, changed, and returned to model for the shoot instead. On that day, it finally clicked with me that I felt my most empowered, beautiful, and creative on the other side of the camera, modeling.

How and when did you start modeling?

In many ways, growing up with a professional photographer as a parent, it has felt like I have always been modeling, but it wasn’t until 2018 that I started to explore it professionally. It all started while I was at a business meeting with a man who was a photographer. He had arranged for later that day to have a body paint shoot, but both of his models ended up flaking at the last minute. It was too late for him to cancel the body painter so he asked me if I was interested in modeling for him. I was thrilled, but I also had no idea what I was getting myself into. After eight hours of painting and two hours of shooting, I got home around midnight, feeling more beautiful, confident, and inspired than I could ever remember feeling. After that, I made a profile on Model Mayhem and started shooting TFP projects about four times a week for the next six months. By the time I graduated from university, I decided to devote my time to focus on modeling professionally, and now, here I am!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I have found myself enjoying nude work the most. There’s something about modeling nude that is just so empowering. I’d rather be shooting nude than really any other fashion project, to be honest!

Model: Jessi Fierce; Photographer: HM Photography

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

Professionalism. This is the most important thing to me. This is a work environment for me and I expect the same level of professionalism from my co-creatives that I would from business associates, employers, clients, etc. The photographers I work with are respectful of time, energy, and boundaries/limitations.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

Since very early on in my modeling career I have found myself inspired by Holly Randall. I love her glamour/erotic work that she has produced for her own website and contributed to publications, such as Penthouse. A model in this industry that I admire very much is Scarlet Begonias. It has been an honor to work with her on many projects this past year.

What would be your dream shoot?

I would love to do a glamorous pin-up style car wash shoot!

How important is social media in your success?

It is and it isn’t… Social media is extremely addicting and exhausting. You need to find some kind of balance in it all. I have had my Instagram account removed four times, which can be disheartening. I think many companies consider your social media following to understand how big of a reach they may have/exposure they’ll receive if they book you for a project, but that is just one piece of the puzzle. Your overall look and the way you conduct yourself on a professional level will typically carry more weight than the number of followers you have.

Model: Jessi Fierce; Photographer: Task Force

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I spend a lot of time these days studying for the LSAT and preparing my law school applications, but when I’m not doing that, I like to workout and spend time with friends and family.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Behave professionally, be a great communicator, show up on time or early to shoots, don’t be afraid to book TFP work to build your portfolio, practice your posing, join modeling safety groups (there are a few great groups on Facebook), check references, trust your instincts, and find a mentor! Having a mentor – another model in your area preferably, that has been doing this for a while can really help you out.

Patrice Delmotte is an amateur photographer based in Taipei City, Taiwan. Despite his love for drawing and engraving, his career afforded him little time for the arts until he received his first camera as a birthday present in 2005. The timing was perfect as Patrice was preparing to retire and he fully embraced photography.

Patrice said, “I was influenced by Sebastião Salgado, whom I greatly admire for the precision, accuracy, and the poetry of his work, even in the most dramatic scenes. I also try to work with light, like the chiaroscuro so popular among Flemish painters or the bright light of the tropics. I hope that the emotion and atmospheres that appear in my work reflect and express my passion for Asia.”

Model Q&A: Faith Starr

Model: Faith Starr; Photographer: Raphaela Meyer

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I am originally from Nigeria. I am presently based in Frankfurt, Germany, and plan model tours abroad, so I’m constantly traveling for shoots.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

Honestly, I first got inspired and interested to try out modeling after watching America’s Next Top Model.

Model: Faith Starr; Photographer: Martin Niederberger

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling 8 years ago in London. I was 23-years old, in my second year of Law undergraduate studies and I developed this huge interest in wanting to become a model after watching America’s Next Top Model (I believe it was the cycle 13). But, I was 5’6″ (164cm) in height, 23-years old, and dark-skinned, living in London, where the stakes are high, with no experience whatsoever, and it wasn’t an easy journey.

I walked into a local photography shop to get some snapshots that I sent to agencies. I got invited for a portfolio day by one of the agencies and that was the genesis of my love and passion for modeling. The shoot was an amazing experience and I learned some posing techniques from the photographer. I did leave the studio with some great shots which started my portfolio but I didn’t get any jobs from the agency, but I kept trying. I was scammed twice, actually by a so-called “modeling agency”, got told by another agency that “because of my height and generic skin tone it will be impossible to book jobs,” and had the door literally slammed in my face when visiting another agency.

So, I decided to freelance, registered on Model Mayhem and networked with photographers. I did a lot of TFP work for about a year and a half, built a strong portfolio and confidence, then I built my website and started getting paid jobs. Now I’m signed by agencies, working full-time as a professional model, published in magazines both locally and internationally, have my images in international exhibitions and images winning photography awards for photographers. I couldn’t be more proud of myself and how far I have come.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy mostly lifestyle shoots and this could be fashion, glamour, nude. It is quite a broad and vast genre and you could interpret it whichever way. I mostly love the freedom of expression and in every shoot I feel like I’m playing a role, a certain character, that I can be whatever I want to be. It’s just like acting. I am not a singer or a writer and I don’t express myself verbally, I’m not really much of a talker either. But modeling is the one way I get to pour out my emotions and explore various aspects of me. I love creating images that are open to interpretation, images that tell a story.

I love acting, so in 2015 I decided to do something about this other passion of mine and I got accepted in 2016 to train in Theatre Performance at Cours Florent, Paris. Being a trained actress perfectly helps me fuse my acting and modeling skills to create brilliant images.

I also love sexy glamour shoots where I can comfortably and freely embrace my feminity, feel empowered and beautiful as a woman.

Model: Faith Starr; Photographer: Jan Persson

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

The first thing I look at is the photographer’s portfolio to see their style of photography. I see myself as a chameleon and I try to adapt to each photographer’s style and requests. Also, because I work with both amateur/hobbyist and professional photographers, I always have to remind myself that every photographer is different and so are their styles/techniques, so it is my job as a model/muse to inspire them or help bring their ideas to life.

What I actually do look for when deciding to work with a photographer is the effort they put into their work, to be creative, to stand out, to express themselves. Simply looking at a photographers work, you can have an idea, or sometimes a little dose, of who they are as an artist and passion for their work. These attributes help create that distinction between a photographer and a guy with a camera.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I am hugely inspired by the work of Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh, Vincent Peters, and my husband, Dirk Müller. Dirk doesn’t only support me but encourages me as a model and working with him has had a positive impact on my growth as a model.

Model: Faith Starr; Photographer: Dirk Müller

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream shoot would have been to have gotten the chance to work with Peter Lindberg, who sadly passed away recently. Besides that, my dream shoots would be on the Grecian Islands, Thailand, New York, and Miami. I am still yet to visit these places and they are definitely on my list to visit next year.

How important is social media in your success?

Very important. Social media plays a very important role in networking and advertisement. In this modern time, you’ll find everyone has taken to social media and it will be silly not to take advantage of its usefulness. I use Facebook and Instagram mostly as a model to connect, show my work and follow other industry creatives (photographers, models, designers, and so on).

Model: Faith Starr; Photographer: Andrew Rowe

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I have taken a keen interest in photo retouching, which I do every now and then as a hobby. I also love treating myself to some nice shopping experiences – tell me what woman doesn’t like that! Above all, I love the quiet evenings with my husband cuddled up and watching our favorite TV shows and movies. Did I mention I am a movie nerd? I think I might have also turned my husband into one!

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Always believe in yourself because no one will if you don’t. People can only tell you what they think you are or what they think is best for you but it’s all on you to truly find yourself and go after what you want in life. I know this modeling industry can be very tough and there are so many negatives on body sizes. You feel pressured to look a certain way to be accepted but believe me, I have been there, and its just people trying to make you into something you are not.

A lot of people say I’m lucky, and, yes, I like to believe that too, and I have come to accept and embrace myself the way I am. Eight years ago I didn’t feel being skinny was lucky, I grew up in Nigeria where one is body shamed for looking skinny, I was made fun of by my peers, I hardly even looked at myself in the mirror. I moved to Europe and I was told that I couldn’t do the one career I wanted to pursue because of the way I looked.

All that is enough to break a person, but it is interesting how the human mind works. If you channel it positively, it will yield positive results. You have to first accept yourself the way you are. There’s nothing wrong with looking yourself in the mirror, smile to yourself and tell yourself YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Be your own version of beautiful! Accept who you are and everyone else will fall in line. Remember in the end, ”Life is what you make of it’.’

Model: Kisa Hues; Photographer: Josh A Katz

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I grew up in Sonoma County, California, and my family and I lived in many different small towns, all in the same area. I’ve been living in Oakland for about 8 months now. Although I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Oakland over the years, this is the first time I have officially lived here, and I love it.
I’ve done a few modeling tours now; New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Phoenix, and Maui. I haven’t made any current plans to tour, but I think Italy will be next.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

When I was young, I was a theater kid. I loved being on stage, performing, memorizing lines, and the entire process of acting. I don’t think my love for being in the spotlight in some way will ever fade. I’m not interested in acting at this point, but I feel like modeling allows me to express my love for taking on different characters and telling stories.

Model: Kisa Hues; Photographer: Douglas Engle

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling when I was in middle school for my close friend, who was a photography student. I thoroughly enjoyed coming up with concepts, finding locations, and doing hair and makeup styling for our many photoshoots over the years. That was my first photographer/muse friendship that inspired me endlessly, and I always swooned over the idea modeling professionally.

In 2011, I started working with a few photographers on creative shoots here and there, but I didn’t actually dive into full-time modeling until last year.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

One of the many reasons I love modeling is because it is so multifaceted. I’m able to use it as a way to express myself in so many ways. “I ain’t got no type.” I want to do and experience it all.

Generally, I tend to gravitate towards art nude in nature because that’s basically how I’ve spent my entire life. I’m totally in my element being naked in nature. I love finding abstract ways to create shapes with my body while flirting with wildflowers and dancing under waterfalls. I find satisfaction in pushing the physical limits of my body for art. Shooting in extreme climates, laying on jagged rocks, free diving into the ocean while waves are crashing and sharp coral is just within reach… these are just a few examples of the temporary discomforts that I have personally endured all in the name of art. I also find that the symbolism of nudity that evokes a sense of freedom, liberation, and vulnerability that moves and inspires many.

Model: Kisa Hues; Photographer: Isha FRee

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

When a photographer contacts me I look for as much information as possible. I want to know precisely what they have in mind to create and every detail possible about how I can help bring their vision to life.
I love being able to take an idea or plan and expand on it and co-create.
In general, I look for photographers who are creatively a match and have a similar taste.

I work with artists and photographers of all skill levels and genres, but it’s crucial to me that each person I work with is well organized, thoughtful, respectful, and values my skills and time.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

Models:
Eva Luna – This woman is at the top of my list for a reason. She has encouraged me to really take my modeling work to another level and has inspired me beyond belief. Yogi, muse, and world traveler; with poise and fierce dedication to her craft. I’m lucky to call her a friend.

Juno LTK – The one and only! I had the opportunity to work with Juno for a day during a photography workshop I co-hosted last June. She is brilliant, personable, and passionate about what she does. I love her analog-style, stunning portraits, and the way she composes herself is remarkable. I hope to work with her again soon.

Shasta Wonder – Shasta is someone I’ve admired for years, and I am always impressed with her abilities. She truly is an aggressively enterprising person with not only a stunning portfolio and a mindblowing physique. She’s a gardener, chef, world traveler, seamstress, and talented businesswoman. I melted into a puddle when she asked me to model for her clothing line.

Astrid Kallsen – Astrid is a modeltographer, like me, and we were able to photographer each other when she visited the Bay Area last spring. I’m in awe by her underwater work, emotive portraits, and her chameleon abilities. She’s also a mermaid. Need I say more?

Julia Yaroshenko – Julia is the only model that I’ve mentioned here that I haven’t personally met, but damn do I love the work she and her husband create together. GOALS!

Model: Kisa Hues; Photographer: Elena Kulikova

What would be your dream shoot?

Underwater in a crystal clear cenote in the Yucatán Peninsula or Plitvice lakes in Croatia. I would imagine my friend Elena Kulikova photographing with a team of talented creatives alongside us, assisting with hair makeup and styling. A girl can dream…

How important is social media in your success?

Social media has definitely been an excellent tool for showcasing my work and connecting with people all over the world. Along with my website, social media is the main place where I share my portfolio and am contacted for modeling jobs.

Model: Kisa Hues; Photographer: Gary Ottonello

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

Outside of modeling, I spend quite a bit of time emailing, updating my website, and doing general administration work so I can continue freelance modeling. For the longest time, I never made the plunge of going full-time because I was so exhausted by all of the emailing that came along with it. Now I find it quite meditative, and I love sitting down and writing away on my laptop.. *clickity-clack *!

When I’m not working, I love doing photography, yoga, hiking, swimming, gardening, skateboarding, having tea ceremonies, immersing myself in nature, and spending quality time with my boyfriend and dog.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Always check references, seeing a familiar face of a model in a photographer’s portfolio is not enough. Reach out to others, play it safe. Let people know where you are going. Be on time. Don’t be a flake. Execute boundaries, and don’t be afraid to say no. Build a portfolio of examples of work that showcase a style that resonates with your personal taste. Trust your instincts and have fun with it.

Photographer: Craig Colvin

Craig Colvin started photography in 2008 and quickly became consumed by it, spending every possible moment learning all he could about how to take better photographs. He set aside a minimum of 30-minutes a day to pursue photography education through online training classes, books, and magazines, while also attending workshops and photography lectures whenever possible.

Craig’s photographic influences are; Gregory Crewdson for his storytelling and cinematic style, Helmut Newton’s bold nude work, Robert Mapplethorpe’s use of light and shadows, and Henri Cartier-Bresson for his geometric and graphical compositions.

However, the photographer that has influenced him the most is John Paul Caponigro. Craig learned the value of writing down photographic ideas, using words to influence his vision and how to get in touch with his inner creativity. Craig says, “I would not be the photographer I am today without him and his influence.”

Photographer: Craig Colvin

“90% of my shots are planned and thought out before I pick up my camera. My creative process involves consuming a lot of raw resources, I often get ideas from a scene in a movie, and ad in the magazine, a song lyric, or another photograph. I keep a notebook with me at all times and will write down the idea or concept as it occurs, if I don’t it will typically be lost.”

Photographer: Craig Colvin

“When it comes time to shoot I will make a list of concepts that I want to convey in the resulting image. Often I will do sketches or small storyboards of the ideas. For studio shoots, I often have an image in my head of what I want the resulting image to look like. The shoot is then all about duplicating this mental photograph in the camera.”

Photographer: Craig Colvin
Photographer: Craig Colvin

“For location shoots where I don’t know what I am going to find at the destination, I will come up with general concepts and ideas. I will then use a collection of words to define several concepts, such as line, lonely, nestled, isolation, and then wander around until I find some element of the location that matches those words and that concept.”

“I love photographing the human form and am constantly looking to present the human body in new and unique ways.”

Model: Astrid Kallsen; Photographer: Tracie Lane Duke

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I grew up in Atlanta, and moved to Athens, GA, for college, where I live now. I travel all year round as a freelance model.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

Everyone around me. I found the modeling environment very welcoming.  People believed I could do it and be good at modeling. I followed the opportunities I was given as they showed up. Eventually, I started making my own opportunities, and now it’s become my life.

Model: Astrid Kallsen; Photographer: Michael Cosky

How and when did you start modeling?

I don’t think I meant to model. I suppose dying my hair blue inspired me. It was a sudden decision I had made when I felt like I had no control in my life. So when my friend asked me to model for him, I thought it would be a great idea to do something to memorialize the blue hair I’d likely never have again. From there it snowballed. I got contacted to shoot and I did it because it was fun. I hadn’t thought about there being other models out there or that I was one of them.

Prior to photography modeling, I did some figure modeling for my art school. I was curious about some kind of modeling since elementary school when I had had my growth spurt and people suggested it. My parents didn’t want me to get involved in modeling unless it was for art. I think feeling uncomfortably tall and skinny, then having blue hair really pushed me to try it. I wanted to feel like my body wasn’t completely weird but supposed to look like this.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I need it all. I don’t know that I have a favorite because every genre and look comes with its own expression. I get bored doing the same thing repeatedly, although nude art is my bread and butter. Underwater modeling and mermaid modeling have been becoming more popular as well. Between the two I’d always be happy. While fantasy is fun, it’s so much prep and clean up time! I love a splash of fashion, lifestyle, and boudoir in my life.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

Professionalism and dedication. I like to work with photographers that take what they do seriously, even if it is to have some serious fun. I enjoy the projects where the photographer is looking for a specific image, but I also love being the inspiration for the photographer looking for their next project or trying to test out ideas. In the creative process, I find that people need a good model for both, and I like being able to step up to the job. I also love my fun shoots with the hobbyists that love to create for the joy of creating. The mutual professionalism and dedication to me and their photography make my job feel valuable.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

That would be a long list. A lot of my friends are so talented and ingenious! I’m inspired by their perseverance, kindness, professionalism, assertiveness, commitment, enthusiasm! They keep me going through all the hardships of modeling and watching their work reminds me of how rewarding modeling can be. They’re incredible. Currently, I have found posing and emotional inspiration from illustrations I find on Instagram and Pinterest. Sometimes the poses would be impossible to ever recreate but the lines and curves give me new ideas on how to see myself in the environment I’m modeling in.

Model: Astrid Kallsen; Photographer: Alyssa Campbell

What would be your dream shoot?

Currently swimming with dolphins! I remembered recently how fascinating they are. They can form interspecies relationships with humans that I think would be important to catch on camera. They’re so intelligent, and their interaction can demonstrate the positive relationships we, humans, can have to the environment.

How important is social media in your success?

So important. For the last few years, I’ve been tracking the connections I’ve made and where they were made. I go through analytics from time to time.  It’s an easier way to get out of your image and communicate what kind of person you are to the people interested in hiring or working with you. Artists are so often workaholics or introverts. Social media helps bring us together at a comfortable distance.

Model: Astrid Kallsen:photographer: Grant Beecher

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

Most of my hobbies are modeling related. I’ve been learning to sew and shoot self-portraits. I find both invaluable to my progress. Since graduating school, I’ve picked up playing board games, and I volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium, Happy Tabby Cat Café, and for Secret City Burlesque. While I don’t dance, I love the burlesque group and getting to dress up. A lot of my free time goes to giving my cats too much attention.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

It’s hard. It’s so hard. Some days and trips feel like they book themselves, but because I already spent most days glued to my phone and laptop. Everyone wants to know how to make more money or pick up more bookings. Usually, the model is doing all the right things, and the best advice I can give is now to do it twice as much. Modeling is a PR and customer service job with some posing on the side.

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I’m from Colorado Springs and currently based in Denver, Colorado, until I move to Grand Rapids, Michigan, later this year to be closer to my modeling work on the East Coast. I travel year-round as a freelance model to every state in the US. Just last month I went to 24 states!

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I was inspired by the beauty and unique ideas that came with the modeling industry. Everything was beautiful everywhere I looked. I have always been an artist and when I first started modeling it was like having a blank canvas to create whoever I wanted to be on it.

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling when I was 15-years old because I got spotted at a local mall by a modeling school. Barbizon modeling and talent school and agency really helped me get my foot in the door with modeling. I learned basic makeup and hair tricks, how to walk on the runway, how to style my own outfits, anything I needed to know they taught me. I even walked in Los Angeles Fashion Week when I was signed with them! When I was no longer benefitting from the agency, I decided to go freelance, and, let me tell you, it was the best choice I ever made. I have my own small business and travel all across the country! When I left the agency I found local photographers and built my portfolio and walked in hundreds of runway shows across the country, got published and made a name for myself. I found myself falling more in love with modeling and was able to quit my job and become a full-time traveling model!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoy modeling creative out of the box ideas that involve complicated makeup and hours of set-up and planning. I became a certified makeup artist last year and it helped me to up my modeling game so much! I get to have so much more creative freedom in my shoots! I also love going to Hobby Lobby and creating shoot ideas on the weekends or whenever I have free time.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

What I always look for in a photographer is that they are good at communicating. Communication is so important in this business, one wrong word and it can change a person’s career completely! Word of mouth is one of the best ways to spread good business and good business comes with good communication. I also always look for references or positive comments to ensure that I am picking a good photographer.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I am inspired by my peers in the modeling community around me. I love scrolling through Pinterest as much as the next girl for an idea and the weekly trip to Hobby Lobby, but I truly love watching the models around me grow and create their own art for all of us in the industry to see and grow from!

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream shoot is with some of the wings from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. In the snow with strings of lights and flowers hanging in the trees. The soft white of the snow falling around me and under my feet in a white glitter bra and panties set with angelic makeup. So beautiful!

How important is social media in your success?

Social media is extremely important to my success! That’s where I meet most of the photographers I work with outside of Model Mayhem. I post every day on my website, Instagram, two Facebook pages, Only Fans, and add photos weekly to Model Mayhem. I find that if I don’t keep up with social media I don’t sell as much content or book as many jobs. Photographers want active models who are posting their photos and that’s what I always try and show.

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

Outside of modeling, I have two amazing dogs, a 4-year-old lab/pitbull mix, Heidi, and a 5-month-old puppy, Lily. We actually found Lily abandoned on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere because someone had dumped her. But when we found her I instantly fell in love with her and we had to keep her! My husband and I are constantly taking them hiking, and as I said before, I love Hobby Lobby, but most of my time is spent modeling or working on modeling. I am always thinking up new ideas and concepts and love branching out in new shoots!

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

The best advice I could give a new model is to always remember that you are beautiful. That you are in control of your career and can make it into whatever you want! It’s a beautiful experience if you do things the right way and always trust your gut. The modeling industry is full of liars and dangerous people so its always best to double-check everyone you plan to work with. And always bring someone with you to shoots with new photographers or any industry member. But always remember to have fun and be yourself. Modeling is an incredible industry to be a part of, and if you work hard and try your best you will succeed!

Mikka, who goes by the name Chercheur de Lumière on Model Mayhem, has been working in photography since the late 1970s. The combination of exposure to both classical portraiture (the Dutch Masters), and more experimental thinking present in the Los Angeles art scene around the late 70s formed a lasting impression on his work and thinking about art and photography that can be seen in his work to this day.

Model: Miss LNI

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I was born and raised in Greece, but I moved to Paris, France, 8 years ago. I am a nomad at heart and I spend half of each month abroad, mostly through modeling.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I started by accident five years ago and I absolutely didn’t expect to ever become a model.

Model: Miss LNI

How and when did you start modeling?

I was in film school, studying directing in cinema (so I was always behind the camera) when other students started asking me to act for them just to help them out. Then, some photographers saw me and suggested I work for them, and that was it! I loved it! I loved interpreting personalities through my modeling and I immediately got many job opportunities.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

Nude and erotica. I really never enjoyed fashion in any way, so that’s also why I never imagined that I would do modeling professionally. But I always loved erotic photography and cinema, particularly from the 70s. This is the only kind of modeling where I feel free to express myself and also encourage positive body-image.

Model: Miss LNI

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

First thing, to be professional. And by this, I don’t mean to necessarily define himself/herself as a pro photographer, but to have the right attitude and behavior. There’s no place for people who don’t know how to behave in this job. Then, I certainly look for a personal gaze, just like with every other artist. I love being taken into another artistic universe and be lost in it. Finally, I’m not interested in just making nice pictures of myself, no one cares, there are way too many beautiful faces out there already.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I like models who are artists at the same time or activists. I believe that today we have the power to use social media and all this attention that “hot models” get to stand up for socio-cultural change. So, yes, I’m pretty much interested in every artist or model whose intention is to raise awareness about our socio-cultural values.

Model: Miss LNI

What would be your dream shoot?

Definitely something very cinematic. Maybe a shoot inspired by an Antonioni film!

How important is social media in your success?

Very important! I was able to travel worldwide and also sell my personal work through my Instagram. However, we’re going through a period of severe censorship where people who use their bodies or sexuality are being literally exiled from this community now, and I’m one of them, so I’m not sure how I’m supposed to get exposure anymore.

Model: Miss LNI

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I write articles in three languages about art, religion, and sexuality in magazines such as Nuart and Playboy. I also write, direct and edit my own short films and my own perform art pieces.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Be unapologetically you, be fearless and don’t let fucking anyone to tell you what you’re supposed to do or when to do it!
