Model Q&A: Laura Lee

Model: Laura Lee; Photographer: John Kaminski

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I’m originally from a small town in northeast Pennsylvania, called Sweet Valley. From there I moved to Philadelphia, then New York, and I’m now based in Los Angeles. I do travel when work opportunities present themselves.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

Growing up I always admired women that had a strong presence within a room, a lot of times those same ladies were beautiful and happened to work in entertainment, so as a child I guess I really wanted to do something in life where I could grab peoples attention and maybe make a difference through that. I don’t think it was one icon that inspired me but all the women I was exposed to as a child that broke boundaries and didn’t follow the normally expected path of life.

Model: Laura Lee; Photographer: arno-l Ibiza LA Maui

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling when I was 15 years old. I grew up in a small town and so my mother turned to Barbizon modeling school. That was where I started my career, and while it didn’t help too much it did help inspire me and realize as I got older that modeling was something I really wanted to pursue.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I love high fashion work the most but partly due to the fact that I’m on the shorter side it’s not typically what I get booked for, but when I do I love the fun of over the top fashion.

Model: Laura Lee; Photographer: Ruben Garza Photography

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

When deciding to work with a photographer, it’s a lot like any other relationship I treat in life. I look for communication, trust, and experience. I like people that have a solid vision of what they are looking to accomplish, and a plan to make that happen.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

Honestly, there are so many that I can’t just narrow things down to one person, but I  do enjoy the time that we live in and that through social media we have so much exposure to artists all over the world.

Model: Laura Lee; Photographer: Deleon Allen

What would be your dream shoot?

I think I would love to do some type of highly stylized shoot with wild animals or an underwater shoot.

How important is social media in your success?

I think social media is a tool we need to utilize in the day of age we are living in. I do believe you can progress at this end of the business without it, but if you have it, why not use it? The more people you can reach with the story you’re trying to tell the better.

Model: Laura Lee; Photographer: loinfly

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

Outside of modeling, I’ve actually started to try to learn the other side of the camera. I’ve found interest in photographing other beautiful beings, which you can see on my Instagram. Also, when I’m not working, I love traveling as much I can and trying new things everywhere I go.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

My best advice to new models would be, try to be kind to everyone, people will often book you because of your personality, not just because of your looks. It’s important to know and set your limits and to stick by them, know where you want to go with your career and then decide what jobs to take to help get you there.

Model: Maryna Nelson; Photographer: Bravo Mike

Bravo Mike is a self-taught photographer based in Düsseldorf, Germany. He first started experimenting with film in 2001, and, through trial and error, he developed his skills and distinctive style.

While big names, like Helmut Newton, were an early influence, he’s more “attracted to the works of a handful of amateur photographers – particularly in Europe. I analyze their photographs; not only for technique but also for the way they convey their message. There is talent around us at all levels and if I can gain insight for any outlet regardless of status, then I am moving forward.”

Mike states that “portraiture is inherently intimate” and he credits dialogue and communication as being the essential elements in his work.

He says, “When someone sits in front of my lens they aren’t an object.  They’re a real person with a real story, experiences, and beliefs. During a photo shoot, I spend an equal amount of time purely talking with them as I do shooting. If I am able to make them comfortable, open them up and get to know them on a more personal level then they become that real person to the camera. It’s recently forced me to slow down and if we only walk away with a handful of photographs, that’s ok. Photography is about capturing emotions and you lose that when it becomes clinical.”

Model: EllyS; Photographer: TwoLees Photography; Makeup Artist: J McCullough

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and raised in Staten Island, New York. I am currently Texan, based in Houston, but travel often between Texas, New York, and Illinois.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

My mother planted the seed that inspired my modeling interest when she enrolled me in pageants through my teen years. I was a part of Super Model New York and acquired many talents that I implement at work to this day.

Model: EllyS; Photographer: FelixNatal Photography; Designer: TyScott

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling when the Selena lookalike search began in preparation for the Selena movie. I was very young then, but it was overwhelming how many people would stop my mother and me to say I resembled the very talented deceased artist and that I should pursue modeling. (To think, Jennifer Lopez stole my thunder!)

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I have been fortunate to work as a fit model, which I enjoyed. It felt as though I had this huge walk-in closet and got to play dress up. Print work has been very fulfilling for me as it allows me the freedom to project how the attires make me feel into an image all can enjoy. I love role-playing in my mind and freezing as the camera clicks away. My most enjoyable modeling experience, by far, is runway! Although these legs are made for walking I find myself at disadvantage being 5’7″, but that has never stopped me from doing “my little turn on the catwalk.” The spotlight was made for me and the feedback from the crowd is priceless.

Model: EllyS

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

I like to work with photographers that reflect a unique edge in their portfolio. I enjoy working the most with photographers that bring together a designer/theme idea, makeup artist and hairstylist. I’ll provide the poses while she/he works the angles.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I find it easy to be inspired these days. Social media has provided an endless array of models and artists to serve as an example of which route to take and/or avoid. If I had to choose, I would say the style of Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, best describes my inspiration.

Model: EllyS; Photographer: TwoLees Photography
Hair Stylist: J.Luxxury, Makeup Artist: Primas Jewell

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream shoot would be something like a 90’s ad. Just classic!

How important is social media in your success?

Believe it or not, social media has not been a tool I utilize for my success. I am more of a people-to-people person and I was fortunate to get my foot through the door before the rise of social media. Of course, Model Mayhem has been the only exception; as I proudly display my most current work for my MM family to enjoy.

Model: EllyS

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I am a mother of two brilliant young ladies and outside of modeling, I enjoy life with them.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

The best advice I can offer an aspiring model is the same advice I would offer anyone wanting to successes at anything in life; do your due diligence- take classes, watch others, ask questions and mold it all together into your own original craft. Let it take flight and best of luck!

Model Q&A: Tiffany Helms

Model: Tiffany Helms ( Self-Portrait)

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I grew up in a small town that no one has ever heard of in California. I now live in Washington, on Bainbridge Island (a short ferry ride from Seattle), and I travel often for shoots.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I love new experiences and I thought doing a photoshoot would be a lot of fun. I didn’t expect to fall in love with it the way I did.

How and when did you start modeling?

After high school, I moved to the California Central Coast, where I met the photographer, Mark Velasquez. We shot together regularly when I first started modeling and he was a huge motivator.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

I’m excited for any shoot that gets those creative juices flowing! I would describe myself as an art model with a more quirky and contorted posing style. I especially love highly stylized, conceptual, and experimental shoots, and any opportunity to create unusual shapes with my body and experiment with my facial expressions.

Model: Tiffany Helms; Photographer: Kate Sweeney

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

I try to see the intention behind the work. I’m not very concerned about your experience or equipment. If I can see that you’re making art, I want to work with you.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

Here is my list (many who I’ve been lucky enough to work with): Most Ghost, David Henry Nobody Jr, Joanne Leah, Gavin Wilson, Spencer Tunick, Kate Sweeney, Greazie, Katlyn Lacoste, Nicole Ellis, David Miller, Jaina Cipriano, VK, Mochi aGoGo, Z Walsh, Karen Jerzyk, Jason River, Sebastian Rut, Jazzelle Zanaughtti, and many more!

Model: Tiffany Helms; Photographer: vk-photography

What would be your dream shoot?

I love traveling to beautiful places and shooting with the rarities found in nature. I went on a trip to Iceland with photographer Shattered Vortex a couple of years ago and we spent the entire week aimlessly exploring and shooting with the otherworldly beauty we found. On most of my tours, I’m racing from one city to the next. This trip was special and I’d love to do something similar somewhere new. Doing it with a full team (photographer, makeup artist, hairstylist, wardrobe stylist, etc.) would be a dream come true!

How important is social media in your success?

I would go as far as to say that social media is necessary if you want to be a traveling model.

Model: Tiffany Helms; Photographer: Mark Velasquez

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

It’s admittedly hard for me to answer this question sometimes. Modeling is such a huge part of my life. I love spending time enjoying nature, snuggling my three cats, making art of any kind, sex/kink education, cooking, gardening, etc.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Here’s a handful of thoughts and tips! Stay safe and check references! Talk with other models in the industry. We are all happy to keep each other safe. Know your limits and stick to them! Don’t do anything you are not comfortable with. Go beyond being an artist and run a business! Be professional, respond to your messages, arrive on time, and set yourself apart. Give it your all at all of your shoots! Push your own creative limits! Have fun and good luck!

Mike Willingham is a fine-art photographer residing in Texas with almost 20 years of experience. His work has been displayed in galleries across the US and Europe. Among his published works, he has a book that showcases his digital work, as well as another coming out later this spring.

Photographer: Mike Willingham Photo; Model: kodi lynn

In the fall of 2017, he saw a nude ambrotype and became fascinated with the style. This began a journey exploring wet-plate photography. In the following months, he taught himself the process and even built a custom camera, capable of shooting plates from as small as 4×5 to as large as 11×14. When describing the technique, Mike said, “I absolutely love the process! The rawness of it, and all the imperfections. It is truly beautiful.”

Cherie Shirl Lian | VIP Member | Verified Credits (13)

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I grew up in China.  I am now based in Toronto, Canada, and I am able to travel for photoshoots.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I’m a big fan of the Victoria’s Secret Angels and they have inspired me to become a lingerie model. Candice Swanepoel is so beautiful and has been a great source of inspiration.

Model: Cherie Shirl Lian; Photographer: VI PA

How and when did you start modeling?

I started modeling in 2017. When I moved to Canada five years ago, a lot of people asked me if I was a model and I always answered, “I’m too short to be a model!” I thought all models were 5’9″ or taller. One day I joined this amazing website, Model Mayhem, and found so many cool photographers to start shooting with.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

In the beginning, I loved anything sexy and boudoir. I’ve recently started doing more creatives and edgy photoshoots, which are so much fun. I also love mixing my love for music and bring in my electric guitar to photoshoots as a prop.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

I always review their portfolio and style. I enjoy working with professionals who have a lot of experience with a unique style. I also work new photographers, so don’t be shy and come up with a cool sexy idea that I can’t refuse.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

Miki Hamano is such an inspiration. She’s an Asian model from Japan that became a Playboy Playmate in March 2018. She also moved from Asia to pursue her dreams in modeling and is doing so well in the USA.

Model: Cherie Shirl Lian; Photographer: VI PA

What would be your dream shoot?

Ha, anything super creative! How about something nude and underwater with corals and a pirate ship!

How important is social media in your success?

Social media is great. I love Model Mayhem and find it easy to connect with local photographers, makeup artists, hairdressers, and other models. Instagram was cool for a bit but I’ve found it’s not easy to find the best photographers there.

Model: Cherie Shirl Lian; Photographer: VI PA

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I’m part of this really cool Asian all-girls band called “Fettish.” I play the electric guitar and love it so much. Modeling has helped me build my confidence and develop my sexy persona and style during the show. I think you boys will love it, come and check us out!

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

Safety is #1. Do your research and talk to other models about their experience with them before working with a new photographer. If you feel uncomfortable at a photoshoot it’s OK to leave and always try and have someone come with you to a first photoshoot.

Check out Cherie Shirl Lian’s Model Mayhem portfolio to see more of her work.

Model Q&A: Glass Olive

Glass Olive | VIP Member | Verified Credits (36)

Model: Glass Olive; Photographer: Mario Zanaria

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I was raised in Utah, and I’m currently based in Los Angeles. I travel for shoots all the time, and love it!

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I never expected to become a model and feel very lucky. I’m inspired by art and fashion throughout history, from all over the world. Art, photography, and modeling are my way of telling stories, and I admire others who also have stories to tell.

Model: Glass Olive; Photographer: Ryan Michael Kelly

How and when did you start modeling?

I began modeling when I was 19, sort of as a little fun way to make a few extra bucks. I was surprised at how inspired and excited I was by modeling and decided to pursue it. It’s been such a wild, beautiful adventure!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

Fashion and portraiture! I love fashion because I feel like wardrobe and accessories add story and flair to a shoot- which is why I started creating headdresses, that I take with me to shoots when the opportunity arises. You can add mystery and intrigue to any shoot- even art nudes- with a few well-placed wardrobe pieces or accessories items. I also love portraiture because faces are so expressive and have such depth. As an actress as well as a model, this is a favorite of mine!

Model: Glass Olive; Photographer: Annie Montgomery

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

First, I always check references. Safety first! After that, style. I love working with passionate creators, so artists and photographers with an eye for style- or who are up-and-coming but obviously talented- are my top priority.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I have so many inspirations! My model friends are always a source of inspiration: Floofie, Annie Montgomery (shes’s a jewelry designer too!) Khara Baret, Alina Lee, Devon Rawlings, Lorelei Black, Mika Lovely, Lauren WK, Meredith Adelaide, Therese Krosse, Mosh, to name a few. I’m also inspired by artists and photographers, like Beth Myrick, Laurie Lee and Gerald Brom, The Little Ghouls, Woke Face, Frank Ockenfels, Allan Amato… the list goes on!

Model: Glass Olive; Photographer: Brandon Fernandez

What would be your dream shoot?

My dream shoot changes so often, but, I’d love to shoot something Rococo-esque, dripping in antique cream lace, pearls, chandeliers, lush furniture, hazy light streaming in through the windows, beautiful and whimsical makeup, and lots and lots of beautiful antique clothes to wear!

How important is social media in your success?

It’s huge. While Model Mayhem is and will always be the key to my success (I probably wouldn’t have a modeling career otherwise, at least not to the scale that it is now), social media basically gives models an opportunity to be their own public relations manager. You are able to show the world who you are- in a way that gives you the power to control your image. Social media is how I show people what I’m doing, and give them an opportunity to get involved- I host charity fundraisers, giveaways, shout-outs, and more- all from one single platform (Instagram). I also use this platform and experience as a model to make money as a social media influencer. People make fun of “Instagram models” but if you have a way to turn a fun platform into a great side hustle, why wouldn’t you? Our media platforms are a huge tool and an investment, and as a model or anyone making a career in the entertainment and arts- invest some time and effort into your social media, and you can get a great return.

Model: Glass Olive; Photographer: Frank Ockenfels

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

Painting and traveling are probably the two biggest loves of my life, other than modeling. I’m also just starting up an Etsy account, for my new clothing and accessory brand “Glass Spider.” It’s very exciting and such a big learning experience.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

If you know for sure you really want this, don’t stop. It’s so difficult and bumpy trying to make it as a new model, believe me, I know. But don’t stop, and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not good enough. You are unique, and there is a place for you- end of story. So keep that fire lit, and work hard.

Some additional tips:

  • Learn to take self-shots! Get creative! I don’t mean selfies, I mean set up the timer on your phone and practice your poses. Taking self-shots are great for a few reasons: you can practice modeling in a private space, so you can be confident on set. You always have new and up to date content to post on your social media outlets, which is super important for future bookings agents and photographers to have access to, and it can be really inspiring and fun!
  • Answer those castings! Every day!! If you don’t apply to castings and get yourself out there, you’re seriously limiting your potential to get booked.
  • Set your rates accordingly. Know your worth, and also be realistic. Charging too little isn’t worth the hard work you’ve put in, but charging a sky-high amount will make it nearly impossible for you to be booked regularly. There are resources online and on Model Mayhem that will help you learn where you fit in, according to your experience and location.
  • Just because you don’t have to clock-in, doesn’t mean no-shows won’t affect your career. Unexpected delays and cancellations happen now and again, but photographers talk, and they will start catching on pretty quick if your grandmother dies three times a month! Remember to have snacks and stay hydrated on-set.
  • Pack a set bag! This has been a huge game-changer for me. Pack a bag that has some lingerie (or whatever wardrobe you use on-set the most), stockings, makeup, a couple of pairs of shoes, makeup remover, some snacks, a small nail kit, a small sewing kit, a phone charger, and whatever else you think you might need. Keep this bag organized and packed at all times, so when you have a shoot, you can just grab the bag and go. It will free up so much time and space in your life, you’ll be happy you did it.
  • ALWAYS CHECK REFERENCES! Your safety comes first.
  • Have fun! It’s no good to overwork yourself or get burned-out. Know when to take breaks, and have other hobbies. Respect the hustle, but respect your mental health first. Modeling is a great way to have a career that allows you a ton of freedom and choose your own schedule, enjoy it!

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

My name is Ulyana and I live in Belarus, a small country in Eastern Europe. I doubt that many people have ever heard of it, and that’s why I often call my homeland a secret place on the planet. We have a lot of beautiful lakes and only local women can compete with it in their beauty. Winters here are cold and gloomy, and I really miss the sun, therefore, from January to March I’m traveling in Asia and available to shoot in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

Yoga is the most important inspiration of my life. I love to use elements from my practice on-set. It helps me to see and to show new forms of the body, to find interesting styles and deep meaning in posing. All types of art inspire me. I paint and try to express the picturesqueness of the moment in my posing.

How and when did you start modeling?

About ten years ago, my boyfriend, who is a real artist in photography, took some photos of me doing yoga and entered it in a competition. When my photos won it convinced me that I could become a model. The photos were published in a magazine and photographers began to invite me for other shoots for calendars and advertising.

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

Since I also teach yoga, I am very interested in discovering the physical abilities of a body, and therefore, in posing, I like working with the body the most. This is probably why I have a lot of nude photos in my portfolio, but I am also interested in artistic portraiture and fashion photography. Also, I adore taking part in projects that are related to my interests in protecting the environment or helping animals.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

Any model is pleased to work with an artist and a master who is well versed in photography, but I happily work with beginners too and enjoy helping them learn. After all, working with a model is a subtle interaction and if a photographer wants to take really catchy pictures, he has to see and portray the person masked under the model’s image. In my work, I always try to create a human connection which creates exceptional sensuality in the photos. I want to inspire and be inspired!

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I am always inspired by people who are constantly developing their personalities and changing the world for the better with their creativity.

What would be your dream shoot?

I adore nature, especially forests and the ocean. My favorite photo project is one about our home, planet Earth. I want to draw attention to environmental problems through my activities. I have long yearned to participate in underwater filming. I know this is not easy, however, this year I intend to study freediving.

How important is social media in your success?

Social networks brought me a lot of different photographers. I often received commercial offers from Instagram and Facebook. But, this year began with both of my accounts being deleted and now I have to rebuild a new community. That’s why Model Mayhem is currently the most useful platform for me. Of course, I invite all MM members to follow my new Instagram. Let’s see if it works or not!

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

As I said, I like to draw and take photos as well. I also practice active meditation with two machetes, learn how throw axes and shoot archery. I like to go beyond the limits of my body and mind, so I try to spend a lot of time in nature all by myself.

Together with my friends, I created an environmental project where we grow a relict forest in Belarus. We planted a labyrinth park of 10,000 ginkgos. These trees can live for thousands of years. I want this planet to remain green and alive after our death.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

More personality and honesty. Do only what you love, then this work will bring you happiness beyond money.

Pierpaolo Morra is a Bay Area photographer, originally from Italy, that started shooting in 2011 when he moved to New York for three months. His early experiences with digital photography left him with the feeling that something was missing, leading him to buy his first analog camera, a Nikon FM2N.

He then learned to develop and print in a small darkroom before buying a Leica M6. Over the next few years, he honed his craft and now uses an analog process for each step, from shooting to printing and retouching.

After moving to San Francisco, Pierpaolo was amazed by the diversity of the people in the city and became interested in portraiture, which led him to Model Mayhem.

Pierpaolo said, “I am lucky enough to have a small collection of cameras, several Nikon and Leica, a couple of Hasselblad, Pentax and so on. But my preference for portraits is the Hasselblad 500 and Pentax 6×7, while my on-the-go camera is a Leica M4 with a 35mm and 50mm lens.”

“I love my fancy cameras and darkroom but sometimes I feel that all this technology and professional instruments tie me up and that 90% of the time I could have the work done with a disposable Ilford!”

“The more I learn about photography, the more I convince myself that the most truthful pics I ever took in my life were the horrible early photos in New York. When I look at them I see the enthusiasm and the freedom of someone that does what they truly love.”

Where are you from? Where are you based now and do you travel for shoots?

I am originally from New York, but I relocated a few years ago to Orlando, Florida, and I do travel for shoots.

Who or what inspired you to become a model?

I was an art minor in college and I’ve always had a passion for creative expression. My best friend, Steph, worked as a figurative art model for our school and she taught me some basics about posing. We spent countless afternoons having our own photoshoots with her basic Nikon D40, scouting locations, heading to the thrift store for wardrobe, and taking turns behind the camera. We had so much fun that she insisted I try figure modeling, and I loved it right away!

A few years later, an opportunity arose for me to model for a professional photographer. Both Steph and my amazing boyfriend, Sean, were my biggest supporters. The love and encouragement of my two favorite people inspired me to start modeling and continues to inspire me to stay focused, work hard, and to strive toward my career goals.

How and when did you start modeling?

Modeling professionally was always a fantasy of mine, but I never considered it an actual possibility. One day, while working a long shift waiting tables, I was scouted for a project by a local photographer. My first formal shoot was a few weeks later. I felt confident, relaxed and natural in front of the camera. The nerves melted away as soon as we started, and I fell into an organic flow of posing. The photographer was ecstatic, and I felt unstoppable. When that project was published, I started to connect with more photographers and models. I was shooting as much as possible to build my portfolio and my skills. After a few months of hard work, I was booking enough shoots to make this my full-time and only job, and I have only gotten busier since then!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most?

This is always a difficult question for me to answer and I honestly don’t think I can choose. I pride myself on being versatile and comfortable in many genres. Each style is empowering in a unique way and each photoshoot is an opportunity to bring a vision to life. I incorporate my yoga practice into all projects– a flow, punctuated by breathing, fueled by inspiration.

I like commercial/lifestyle modeling and fashion because both genres are meditative for me. I envision myself as one with the product or style I’m showcasing. It’s a fun challenge that’s different every time.

I’m also a big fan of boudoir modeling. I love my body and showing off my curves! I enjoy using subtle facial expressions and body language to bring the sensuality of the shoot to the next level. I love the heat and drama of it all.

What do you look for when deciding to work with a photographer?

Professionalism, above all else. I pride myself on being professional and hold myself to a high standard as a model. I want to collaborate with people who share those values. Talent is important for obvious reasons, but I also love to work with photographers that vibe with me. The creativity flows and you feel like you are in sync with each other artistically–there’s nothing like it.

Which models or other artists currently inspire you?

I have always admired classic, era-defining models such as Farrah Fawcett, Gisele Bündchen, Twiggy Lawson, Kate Upton, Marylin Monroe, and Pamela Anderson (just to name a few). Tyra Banks inspires me because of her work to encourage body confidence in women everywhere, and her persistence in the face of adversity early on in her career. Naomi Campbell is another that I really look up to because of her openness about her struggle with addiction and her commitment to sobriety and second chances–something I feel quite strongly about as I enter my 4th year of sobriety.

What would be your dream shoot?

When I think of my dream shoot, I picture jetting across the turquoise Caribbean waters in a powerboat. Landing on a secluded white sand beach with limestone cliffs. We shoot in perfect sunlight all morning. Wrapping for a delightfully fresh seafood lunch on the beach before picking things back up at a luxury Balinese inspired mansion on the beach for golden hour. The best thing about this dream shoot is that I am making it a reality! I was selected to be a model for the Mermaid Experience, a semi-annual all-inclusive creative vacation in Turks and Caicos. I am beyond excited!

In addition, I have a never-ending list of photographers, locations, and concepts I want to explore. A few examples- I’d love to do a shoot on horseback, both in a long flowy gown and in the nude. Other fantasy shoots include Hawaiian beaches, a cosplay shoot where I am dressed as Elsa from Frozen, and literally any sort of shoot that is a tribute to iconic models and/or photographs. I did a shoot last year that was Farrah Fawcett themed and I would love to explore that concept again and expand on it. I’d also love to shoot in the Arches National Park someday. I wasn’t kidding about my list, it never ends!

How important is social media in your success?

It’s not the most important thing but it has an impact. It’s great for exposure and networking, but new projects find me through several avenues. Most of my work comes from Model Mayhem, which I personally do not consider to be social media as it is meant specifically for those in the industry. I would still have a job if social media wasn’t here tomorrow.

Model: Scarlet Begonias; Photographer: RW Carins

What else do you like to do outside of modeling?

I practice yoga, hang at the beach, paint/do art, eat healthy food, go on adventures, and spend quality time with the people I love.

What’s the best career advice you can give to new models?

The most important advice is to ALWAYS keep yourself safe. The specific things you do for safety might vary in each situation, but always let someone know where you are going, and do your research.

Be kind and supportive to other models you meet. Competing against other models will cost you peace of mind and success. The real competition is yourself; the rest is a distraction.

Be patient with yourself. Learn your body. Practice your poses. Develop your own flow!
